Ever mixed up or used a word and wondered if it would ever become a part of the English language.
Humungous, Pedo, Nek minut, Awesomeness,
Well here are some that have just been inducted into the Oxford Dictionary to officially become part of the English language.
Now I’m not saying we do or use all of these but some of them do resemble us 🙂
Awesomesauce, adj.: ( informal) extremely good; excellent (describes our people and services)
Beer o’clock, n.: an appropriate time of day for starting to drink beer
Brain fart, n.: (informal) a temporary mental lapse or failure to reason correctly – hands up those that haven’t had one of these
Butt dial, n.: (informal) when your cell phone accidentally calls someone you did not mean to while on your person – oops
Cakeage, n.: (informal) similar to corkage but it refers to charging you for bringing your own cake – look out for this on your next restaurant menu
Manspreading, n.: the practice whereby a man, especially one travelling on public transport, adopts a sitting position with his legs wide apart, in such a way as to encroach on an adjacent seat or seats – don’t you hate it
Onesie, n.: a really trendy, character themed one piece pyjamas worn by so many youngsters (aren’t they the old undershirts trended up)?
Pocket dial, v.: inadvertently call (someone) on a mobile phone in one’s pocket, as a result of pressure being accidentally applied to a button or buttons on the phone
Wine o’clock, n.: an appropriate time of day to start drinking a wine – it’s always time somewhere in the world
Can you guess our favourite new word? It is very Australian. There will be a prize for the 1st correct answer.
We wouldn’t mind waging that these words will be inducted in 2016 Speed-wee, Poo-emergency, amazeballs and wastebook 🙂
